How to Enable Dark Mode for Hinfo on Any Device
← Blog Main Menu

Dark Mode is an alternative theme for viewing content on our smartphones, tablets and desktop/laptop computers.
It is also referred to as Dark Theme and Night Mode, but it is the same feature.
Benefits of Dark Mode
Before diving into how to enable this on your device, let's cover the benefits.
Reduce Eye Strain
White backgrounds with black text are perfectly normal for your eyes during the day.
However, when you are viewing reading that blog/news/social media post at night, the bright whiteness of the screen can do the most damage to your eyes.
Many devices offer a mode to reduce the blue light from the screens at night, as blue is the most harmful to the eyes at night when look at a display. This generally creates a red tinge to the screen, but it is not as impactful as a Dark Mode.

Improved Battery Life on OLED Devices
Many smartphones today (particularly the flagships) have an OLED or AMOLED display.
What makes these displays different is the light source for the display is separate for each pixel on the screen, whereas the backlight for LCD and LED display come from a single source and apply to the entire display evenly.
By enabling Dark Mode, all areas of the screen that are pitch black have turned off the backlight for all those pixels, leading to improved battery life.
The YouTube channel PhoneBuff ran a test to prove the theory and it resulted in 30% additional battery life remaining after a 7.5hr test on an iPhone Xs Max.
